Atlantis Plastics, Inc., founded in 1984 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia (with an additional office in Miami, Florida), was a U.S.-based manufacturer specializing in diverse plastic products, including specialty films and custom molded and extruded items. The company's operations were segmented into three primary divisions: Plastic Films, Injection Molding, and Profile Extrusion. 1. Plastic Films Segment: Within this segment, three distinct units operated: Stretch Films produced multi-layered plastic films primarily for covering, packaging, and safeguarding products during storage and transit. Custom Films specialized in tailored monolayer and multilayer plastic films, which served as crucial substrates in multilayer laminates for applications such as carpet foam padding, automotive ... parts, medical devices, and industrial or protective packaging. The Institutional Products division converted these custom films into disposable consumer goods like table covers, gloves, and aprons. 2. Injection Molding Segment: This division manufactured custom thermoplastic components designed for a range of small and large appliances, encompassing refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and dishwashers. 3. Profile Extrusion Segment: Meanwhile, this segment focused on creating bespoke extruded plastic products catering to both consumer and commercial markets, including items for recreational vehicles, mobile homes, residential doors and windows, office furniture, and various appliances. Atlantis Plastics served a broad spectrum of industries, such as storage and transportation, food service, appliance manufacturing, automotive, and general commercial and consumer sectors. Its products were distributed exclusively through a network of distributors. Originally established as Atlantis Group, Inc., the company officially adopted the name Atlantis Plastics, Inc. in March 1992. However, the company faced significant financial challenges, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on August 10, 2008. This voluntary petition for reorganization was subsequently converted to a Chapter 7 liquidation on December 18, 2008.
